Update

There are never enough good excuses for an update. Doing things differently is always refreshing and always exciting. So, without further ado... I am going to update!

New Blogger - We have a new blogger coming on-board. Ok, so she isn't exactly new. She is an alt of one of the other bloggers, but she has a different style that would fit perfectly with what we already have.
Wendy Densmith is a teen blogger. She will be styling suitable styles and funky stuff for the teens of SL. If you feel that your creations would be suitable for a fourteen to eighteen year old please contact Wendy in-world and she'll take a look. Also, if you have styling ideas for her, feel free to drop a notecard.

New Look - I will be working on a new look and layout for the blog in the coming weeks. I want to make it look better, and be easier for you to read. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome in the comments, or directly to any of the bloggers.

Updated Policies - I will be updating the policies today. The changes will be minor, but please check them before you drop notecards or review copies. I want to ensure that everything is going to the right place and that the bloggers aren't being inundated with things that they do not deal with. Do not worry if you do send something to the wrong place. We will either contact you, or we will do what we can internally.

Open Blog Policy - This is an open forum. Feel free to comment, discuss and even submit posts if you want to. Want to try blogging? Contact Tracy Rubble or email tracyrubble@gmail.com with your post and any pictures. If it fits it will be posted. We are also looking for a couple more bloggers who would like to post regularly. This blog is all about the girls, but we would love to add people with different styles and even possibly a homes and furniture blogger. Get in touch if you would like to help.

All of that said, welcome to the new era of G for Girl.

Damn Phishing scams

So today was the day that nearly ended Second Life for me. I work as a sales assistant for a large store to earn the money to keep my store open, while working someone came in and spammed everyone on the sim about a free gift from her store. I went into the conference call and clicked her name to bring up the profile so I could copy/paste it into the ban list but instead caught the link, having a blonde moment I thought I'll just go take a look. The link brought up the login page and as Marketplace does that didn't think anything of it so logged in....what a stupid thing to do, the next thing I know I crashed in SL, although it wasn't a crash it was someone logging in on my account after they had changed the password.

Thankfully Linden Labs were on the case the minute I sent a contact form in and within a couple of hours I was allowed to change the password again and regain control of my avatar, some of the messages I received were quite nasty so I sent them an explanation/sorry IM and closed the window, one lady was very sweet about it.

My account, as far as the second life website is concerned is still in administration lock down and my L$'s are still missing but I have had an email saying I have a refund pending. If I had lost the account I would have shut the whole lot down and left SL, there is still a chance that I will loose the store as without the L$'s I had saved I will lose the land and not be able to pay the rent on my other stores but I hope it won't come to that. It may also have affected my reputation and that is something I rely on.

If anyone who reads this was affected by this scam through my avatar I would like to say a huge sorry, and would warn anyone to be very very careful over what they click on. I would also like to remind people that most of the avatars used for these scams are innocent victims especially if, like me, they have been in SL for many years and have a business of one form or other.

Honey's I'm home!

A few months ago I made the hard decision to leave all of my friends, my business and everything I'd learned in Second Life behind. It wasn't a choice I made lightly, in fact it kind of crept up on me over a year or so.

The reasons for me leaving were complex and varied, but in general I had little spare time. What spare time I did have I wanted to spend with my RL family and getting RL happy. Months passed and RL got pretty amazing. Now things have changed.

My other half was forced to leave his job, so we're now both home all day long until he finds more work. Those who know my other half know that he's an amazing man who seems to spend his entire life doing things to show K and I how much he loves us. So it's no surprise that him being home all day means he's taken more than his fair share of the housework. He's also been decorating and catching up with the DIY and doing most of the school runs too! This has left me with big chunks of spare time that I can't fill up with studying or watching tv. So for the time being, I'm back!

This blog will be my main project within SL. I'll maybe do some small time designing for events and things where needed, but I don't have the L's behind me to run a store anymore (Sponsors welcome :p) <<< for those who feel the need, I AM JOKING.

So that's it. I'll be having a scan over the blog and making a few minor changes to the review policies and things over the next few days, but pretty much feel free to drag me into an IM if you want to talk.

It's lovely to be back.

Review Policies and Guidelines - Update Sept 2010

It's about time I gave this post a clean up. So here goes.

Dial G For Girl is a joint, "for fun" Second Life blog written and maintained by Tracy Rubble and Ephedra Loon. From time to time we do allow guest bloggers! So if you would like to try your hand at blogging without the hassle of a blog let one of us know. Send us a written review, with a picture, of anything you want and if we like your style you'll get a guest spot! Send it to tracyrubble@gmail.com and let us see your style!

Review Copy Policy
The majority of the time, if we see something we'd like to review on this blog it is also something we want to wear. Therefore we will buy it ourselves. We will, however, try to send you a message to say we've reviewed something of yours, so that you can see the review and let us know if we have written anything incorrectly.

We both happily accept review packs, both solicited (asked for) and unsolicited. However, we cannot guarrantee a timescale in which these will be reviewed. For unsolicited review packs, we will try to give feedback where possible. But if the items are not in our styles, or we feel we cannot give the items a fair review they will not be blogged. This doesn't mean we don't like your items, it just means we didn't have time, or they didn't fit in with our style at that time. We change a lot.

Review packs and press releases can be sent to either Tracy Rubble or Ephedra Loon in world. Feel free to send to us both if you wish to increase your chances of getting reviewed. We chat daily, so we'll make sure whoever is going to do it best, does your review.  Feel free to contact us at any time with questions!
Review pack folders should be named "Review Pack" where possible so it doesn't get lost.

Press Releases
We understand a press release is time limited. You want your release out as fast as possible to promote your event etc. If you have a press release, send it to us in a folder called "Press Release". If it will fit in with the blog, it'll be posted within a day or two.

We will not!
  • Review stolen items, or items from a known thief.
  • Review things we don't like
  • Give a bad review (the only negative posts are Tracy's Rants which are not usually directed at anyone)
  • Promise to review everything all of the time.
  • Dismiss new creators (you will be treated the same regardless of how long you've been open)
  • Take Bribes (Unless they're really good ones, chocolate works as does jewelry)

Welcoming Ephedra

Just a quick post.

I'm happy to announce, gforgirl has a new blogger on the team!

Ephedra Loon is designer of Dragon Charm designs, and designs an eclectic mix of jewellery. She's an amazing person and loves to learn new things.
So she's here, and learning how to review!

Give her a big warm welcome, and if you wish to add her to your review packs list, please feel free.

I'm looking forward to her first post in a few days.

Good Luck Ephe.

Comments

Just a note to say, I'm a giant dufus.

So I logged in and scrolled through the 10 or so comments I'd been left on recent posts and was so happy to see there was zero spam.

So I select them, click "accept" and smile, thinking all of your lovely words would soon be shared with everyone... and bam, it hits me....

The little pastel shaded banner... comments rejected.

Yup, I didn't check the accept button actually said "accept". Lil miss click happy clicked reject.

I'm such a dumbass.

Forgive me???

Still here

I am so used to posting here daily now that its actually seemed odd not dropping a post on you hehe.

Latest system news is, I'm still down. We thought we had the laptop all figured earlier when it finally ran for nearly 2 hours solidly. Then we turned it off, let it cool.... and now it won't boot up at all :(

So, back to the expert aka Dad tomorrow lol. (for those who don't know, my stepfather is a pc engineer.) If he can't fix it now, when it can't actually find out whats wrong with it, then it's backup and bin time.

I'm still raising what I can for new, so theres been no shopping for me... but I'll have a post for you later today or sometime tomorrow if I can find something interesting. Wanna suggest something thats hot and low cost/free?

Hey a girls on a budget, whats she to do?

Technical Difficulties

As many of you have already heard my laptop died. It was old, it was on its way out but I wasn't expecting it to go in the middle of a picture taking session last night. The screen went black and now it's lost half of my RAM and won't run.

It's in with an expert to see what, if anything, can be saved/fixed. But it's 90% looking as though I need a new laptop altogether.

Get a desktop you say?
I have zero space for one in this tiny little house. A laptop is easier to store and easier for me to use. Right now I have access to a slower and less graphically able pc, and a very lovely customer of my store pointed me in the direction of gimpshop, which is a free program (gimp) with patches to make it act and work more like photoshop. So far I'm still trying to get a feel for it, but it's better than nothing.

This does mean that I can't work on new designs for a little while so releases will be slow and so will blog posts here, because I can't take very good pictures and I don't want to show things in bad light.
I'll do what I can though.

One thing I will try to do is find some guest bloggers. If you want to apply, email me at tracyrubble@gmail.com with a sample of your work. Only good standards will be accepted.

I've also got a 100L or less sale at my store Trubble, with the main aim of keeping the tier up until I can get back for good.

I dunno how long it'll be before I can get a new laptop and get working again, but I will keep you updated.
For now I'll leave you with a picture of the best graphics I can get on here.

Hugs for now

Dial G for Girl

Hello world!

Blogging is something I've considered time and time again but never gotten around to doing. I've always been an avid reader of the fashion feeds, and spend hours scanning for reviews of the latest releases from stores both old and new.

I'm a designer myself, and I know just how amazing it feels to see something I have made on someones blog for all to see. I've wanted to be able to do that, as a sideline hobby. I've wanted to give other designers that fluttery "oooh I got blogged" feeling I love so much.

So here I am, with my very own, brand new, shiny blog.

I'll be spending some time setting things up, adding the all important review policy and guidelines, and generally getting things going. So for now you'll be able to check my "Trubble Takeover" posts out on Beulah Mills' blog, One thing at a time.

I hope you bookmark me, or add me to your readers, so you can check back as I get going.
For now, if you want to get in touch about anything feel free to IM me in world or email tracyrubble@gmail.com.
